Elders Newsletter February
Cornerstone Elders Monthly Newsletter
February - 2024
Welcome to another edition of the elders’ newsletter. Here are a few things that have been going on in the past month. A graphic of the church structure will be displayed on the lobby wall soon. This will give an at-a-glance overview of who our leaders are and their responsibilities. Also, please watch the monitors for ways that you can be involved with these teams. There are many ways you can be part of the family and build strong relationships with your brothers and sisters in Christ.
The elders are hoping to add to their board of six. Conversations are happening with potential candidates, so be praying that we have discernment from the Spirit. These relationships take time, but we will make the body aware as we enter the vetting process.
The search to fill the Community team lead position continues. Elder John Covey has been the interim lead. This will be a full-time position reporting to the elders that oversees all of our outward focused ministries. These include Youth, Outreach, Missions, Kitchen, Life Groups, and partnering ministries. This person will be busy with many pastoral roles such as hospital & home visitations, discipleship and team building, monitoring theology, and ensuring that Cornerstone effectively brings the love of Christ to our community. A job description will be posted soon.
The elders are communicating to leadership our vision of how to build disciples by studying the book “Master Plan of Evangelism”. The author Robert Coleman conveys the way Jesus made disciples in a way that can be understood and replicated. It is important that every ministry is working toward the same goal of making disciples who have a faith that works in real life. There has been great discussion around this topic and has been useful in unifying the leadership of Cornerstone.
New groups have started, offering more ways that you can build relationships with this body of believers. Check them out on our Life Groups or Focus Groups page. Life groups are like bible studies that also do life together. They help each other in times of need and celebrate in times of blessing. These are places to be known, cared for, and be pressed in your pursuit of Christ. Focus groups meet short-term to cover a need or topic. These are a great way to boost your understanding, meet new people, and help you through a tough season.
Be praying for Todd as his sabbatical comes to an end, that he receives from the Holy Spirit a sabbath rest and empowerment. It has been very encouraging to see strong attendance at the weekend services as we have had six different teachers in a row. We are blessed to have those willing and able to take on the task of preparing and presenting the word of God to the body.
