Cornerstone Elders Monthly Newsletter
February - 2024

Welcome to another edition of the elders’ newsletter. Here are a few things that have been going on in the past month. A graphic of the church structure will be displayed on the lobby wall soon. This will give an at-a-glance overview of who our leaders are and their responsibilities.  Also, please watch the monitors for ways that you can be involved with these teams. There are many ways you can be part of the family and build strong relationships with your brothers and sisters in Christ.

The elders are hoping to add to their board of six. Conversations are happening with potential candidates, so be praying that we have discernment from the Spirit. These relationships take time, but we will make the body aware as we enter the vetting process.

The search to fill the Community team lead position continues. Elder John Covey has been the interim lead.  This will be a full-time position reporting to the elders that oversees all of our outward focused ministries. These include Youth, Outreach, Missions, Kitchen, Life Groups, and partnering ministries. This person will be busy with many pastoral roles such as hospital & home visitations, discipleship and team building, monitoring theology, and ensuring that Cornerstone effectively brings the love of Christ to our community. A job description will be posted soon.

The elders are communicating to leadership our vision of how to build disciples by studying the book “Master Plan of Evangelism”.  The author Robert Coleman conveys the way Jesus made disciples in a way that can be understood and replicated. It is important that every ministry is working toward the same goal of making disciples who have a faith that works in real life. There has been great discussion around this topic and has been useful in unifying the leadership of Cornerstone.

New groups have started, offering more ways that you can build relationships with this body of believers. Check them out on our Life Groups or Focus Groups page. Life groups are like bible studies that also do life together. They help each other in times of need and celebrate in times of blessing. These are places to be known, cared for, and be pressed in your pursuit of Christ. Focus groups meet short-term to cover a need or topic. These are a great way to boost your understanding, meet new people, and help you through a tough season.

Be praying for Todd as his sabbatical comes to an end, that he receives from the Holy Spirit a sabbath rest and empowerment. It has been very encouraging to see strong attendance at the weekend services as we have had six different teachers in a row. We are blessed to have those willing and able to take on the task of preparing and presenting the word of God to the body.

Elders Update Fall 2025 Volume 1 | Issue 1 Fall, 2025 Elders’ Update …may the Lord cause you to increase and abound in love for one another, and for all people, just as we also do for you.” 1 Thes. 3:12 There is much occurring at Cornerstone about which we the Elders are excited and encouraged! Let’s take a peek at some upcoming events! Fall Fellowship Sat. 10/4, 5-8p here at the church As Elders, we love to worship with the Body, pray with the Body, and of course visit with you as well in your homes. Sometimes we also love to just relax, throw some cornhole bags, and enjoy a freshly grilled hot-dog or burger! Bonfire, the Kona-Ice truck, hayrides – we’ll be having all the typical Midwest fun one has at an outdoor gathering like this! Make sure you come out to meet and fellowship with the Body! PS: This is a GREAT event to bring someone who may be a bit nervous or intimidated by coming to a Sunday gathering, or a person with whom you have been building a relationship. This Fall Fellowship event is very informal, relaxed and fun! City Quake Evangelism Conference Wed. 10/15 -Sat. 10/18 at Family of Faith Church We have the opportunity as a Body to participate in a 3-day conference equipping us to better share our faith and invite others into a relationship with Jesus! Beginning Wed. 10/15, City Quake will be leading sessions on How to Share our Faith. Additionally, each day we will have opportunity to practice what we are learning by evangelizing in the Newark community. Tickets are $90 for all sessions, and the conference will be held at Family of Faith Church on Mt. Vernon Rd. in Newark. We are excited for this opportunity to not only meet and fellowship with members of area churches, but also grow in our confidence and ability to effectively share the Gospel in our community! “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness” 1 John 1:9 Current Sermon Series We hope you have been edified and encouraged by the current sermon series on Confession and Repentance! We have been given many encouraging testimonies from individuals who have actively engaged these two foundational disciplines in their lives. Keep pressing in, everyone! The Lord honors the repentant heart! We can attest that it is in times of our most authentic repentance that we have grown the most in our personal lives. Upon completion of this series, we will begin our new sermon series the first Sunday in October. Get ready to study through the book of Mark! Encouragement to the Body: We were very encouraged to see so many of you at service ON TIME. It is important evidence of our commitment to the Lord that we think Him worthy of our BEST. One way we show that is by treating Worship and Sunday service as a non-negotiable part of our week. We arrive early so we can greet our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ and are ready to engage worship promptly at 10am. Consider this adage I often (half)jokingly reminded my Youth Ministry volunteers: “If you’re early, you’re on time. If you’re on-time, you’re late. If you’re late, you’re fired!” ? Too often we take an approach to Sunday service that indicates a less-than-urgent attitude about worshipping God. We arrive when it’s convenient, late, or stroll in without an attitude of reverence or eagerness for what we are about to do: engage the Holy, Righteous God of the universe! Heed the exhortation, Believer: treat the Sunday Service as a celebration to which you will not be late. You wouldn’t DREAM of being late to a Buckeye football game – why do we think we can give God less?? If and as we are regularly in prayer during the week, and even especially in confession and repentance, surely we will be eager to “come into the Lord’s house with thanksgiving and His courts with praise”! Cornerstone Church 4905 Jacksontown Rd, Heath, OH 43056 Get to know your Elders! This edition’s feature Elder in the spotlight is Nate Davis! Nate is married to Anna and has 4 lovely daughters. He loves to ride his motorcycle and is always willing to talk shop about riding. Nate has been an Elder since 2024 and is also part of our Teaching Team. Nate is currently excited about a podcast he is listening to about Church History called “Church History and Theology” by Tim Easley. Give it a listen!
